Bio
Mark Ernestus is a German DJ and producer who founded the Kreuzberg record shop Hard Wax in 1989 and in 1993 formed Basic Channel with Moritz von Oswald, a duo and label that also set up the mastering house Dubplates & Mastering and the imprints Chain Reaction and Main Street. As Rhythm & Sound, the pair recorded takes on Jamaican dub with vocalists including Paul St. Hilaire and Cornell Campbell. Since travelling to Senegal in 2011 in search of original mbalax recordings, Mark Ernestus has led Ndagga Rhythm Force, a Dakar ensemble around percussionist Bada Seck and singer Mbene Diatta Seck laced with electronics and dub bass, whose album Khadim followed in 2025.
